Setting up: your operation, suppliers and pricing

Ten minutes of setup makes every load and barrel after it one tap. All of it is under Settings on the Log's home screen.

The Settings screen

  1. Your operation: farm name, business name, address and license number. These print on every label and slip.
  2. On the label: organic certification and the origin line.
  3. Label and Receipt Printing: your printer, and whether a label or slip prints as soon as you enter a barrel or load.

Suppliers and your own woods#

Sources are where sap comes from: your own woods and the suppliers you buy from. Open My sites and sap suppliers.

The Sources screen with a site and a supplier marked

  1. My sites: your own woods. If you use Sap Spy monitoring, your sites are already here. Add taps for a site and the report shows gallons per tap.
  2. A supplier: tap one to see this season's totals, their deal, and the button that sends them their page.
  3. Add another supplier.

Adding a supplier#

Tap Add another supplier, or + Add on the Log a load form.

The New supplier form

  1. Name. Add their woods below it if they haul from more than one place.
  2. Phone and email. Needed only if you want them to get a receipt or their link.
  3. Priced: the deal (see below).
  4. Add supplier. The button is at the bottom of the screen.

Pricing deals#

Each supplier has one deal, and every load is valued the moment it lands.

Deal How a load is valued
Per point gallons x Brix x your rate. The usual deal; $0.16 a point is the default.
Share of bulk the syrup the sap makes, in pounds, x the bulk price per pound x their share.
No price your own woods, or a deal settled some other way.

Changing a deal part way through the season is fine: the new rate starts on the date you choose, and you can reprice the loads since then or leave them.

A supplier's screen with the deal, their page and this season marked

  1. Priced: the deal and the rate.
  2. Share their delivery page: sends them a link to their own loads and totals.
  3. This season: loads, gallons, value, paid and unpaid.

FAQs

Not at once. Change the rate on the date it changed; loads before that date keep the old rate.

Gallons times Brix. 800 gallons at 2.1 Brix is 1,680 points, which at $0.16 a point is $268.80.
