Québec: the 2025–2026 marketing convention between the PPAQ and the Conseil de l'industrie de l'érable, approved by the Régie des marchés agricoles; the price every Québec producer receives, organic +C$0.18. US buyer: Bascom Maple Farms' posted price for the 2026 crop, organic +$0.15. Tc = light transmission. Bulk syrup is bought by the pound at 66 °Brix; a US gallon of it weighs about 11.1 lb, which is how the per-gallon figures are made.

How Québec sets its price

Every barrel of bulk syrup made in Québec is sold through one agency, the PPAQ. Every two years the PPAQ and the buyers negotiate a convention with a price grid by grade; the province's agricultural marketing board approves it, and that grid is the price, for everyone, for the whole crop. About seven pounds in ten of the world's syrup are priced off it. The 2026 grid rose 1.5% on 2025, 4.1% over the two years.

The United States has no equivalent. Each bulk buyer posts its own price each spring, and a producer compares postings by phone. The BMF Index is meant to be the number they compare against.
